CNN Creates Clock to Count Time Between Trump Twitter Outbursts

CNN has taken notice of President Trump’s recent hiatus from Twitter. In a tongue-in-cheek article, the network has actually posted a counter that notes the time since Trump’s last angry tweet.

In the article from the day after his triumphant address to Congress, the network noted that the president had not attacked anyone on the social media platform since Sunday when he posted, “Russia talk is FAKE NEWS put out by the Dems, and played up by the media, in order to mask the big election defeat and the illegal leaks!”

A check of the @RealDonaldTrump Twitter feed shows a handful of tweets since Sunday, but no attacks. One tweet notes a poll showing that Republicans are now viewed more favorably than Democrats. Another crows about stock market gains since the election. One, posted the day after the speech, simply says, “THANK YOU!”

At press time, the counter reads, “3 days, 21 hours, 35 minutes, 12 seconds.”

In the past, Trump pivots to civility have been short-lived, but Trump seems to be enjoying the surge of optimism and confidence experienced in the wake of his speech. The afterglow of the speech reportedly even persuaded the president to delay issuing a revised immigration Executive Order. Nevertheless, as criticism mounts about Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ failure to disclose meetings with the Russian ambassador, there is an increasing chance of a tweetstorm.

As CNN says, “We'll see how long it lasts -- literally.”
